The main architectural sights of the city of Palma de Mallorca
Cathedral of La Seu. Its construction began in 1229 on the site of the demolished mosque. It impresses with its size and beauty and has a rose window, which is the largest in the world, made in the Gothic style (12 meters in diameter). The entrance to the cathedral is paid, but it’s worth it. It is amazing both outside and inside.
Almudaina Palace – located opposite the Cathedral. Half of the palace is owned by the current royal family and serves as their summer residence. The second half is a museum that is open to the public. Nearby are also royal gardens with fountains and monuments. Here, in the shade of trees, you can relax and cool off. Entrance to the gardens is free.
Bellver Castle in Palma also deserves a visit. On Sunday you can get there absolutely free. It stands at the top and from its walls there are beautiful panoramas of the mountains, the port of Palma and the city. There are no more castles like this in Spain – it is round and made in the Gothic style, on its territory you will find a museum of the history of Palma.
The old town of Palma deserves special attention. Narrow streets, coquettish courtyards, cozy cafes will add medieval charm to your walk.
The Church of Santa Eulalia is a Gothic masterpiece, hardly inferior in beauty to the main cathedral of Palma. Many bright stained-glass windows, glass rosettes, a miraculous cross with Jesus Christ brought to the island during the expedition of King James I in 1229 – and you will see all this absolutely free of charge by visiting this oldest church in Palma.
